Dr. Beckstein is spearheading the movement for intolerance and discrimination of minority religions in Bavaria. Since 1996 a member of the Synod of the Lutheran State Church in Bavaria he takes any opportunity to engage in activities against the "competition" for his Lutheran State Church.

Bavaria introduced policies denying Scientologist to work in civil service in Bavaria. Beckstein as State Secretary at the Bavarian Department for the Interior promotes the observation of Scientology through the OPC (German secret service agency founded during the cold war that ran out of work).

In the worst German tradition Beckstein warns about minority religions alleged intentions to take over first the German Government and then the world. (tz 2/3 October 1997)

The Bavarian State distributed "enlightenment" material for teachers at Bavarian schools. This material defames minority religions and depicts them as cults. Finally German Judges had to correct this wrongful pamphlet,- after the Bavarian Government had distributed thousands of copies to teachers.

In a press release (Die Welt, 3/23/99) Beckstein demands laws  to make religions illegeal and regrets that this would possibly be against the German constitution.

In the same press release he demands the continuation of the observation of the Church of Scientology through the OPC (German secret service agency recently hiring ex stasi agents), because Scientology would be a threat to the German constitution.
